First Growth!!

Well apart from the weeds that is. Here are some pictures of onions, and what we think might be potatoes, well they're growing where we planted the potatoes anyway!

Weekend Update 21/4/07

Busy weekend!! Irresistible offer of a free shed, but unfortunately miles away. Saturday all taken up with collecting said shed, and Sunday putting up shed. Here are some pics of the progress through the day...

...after "refurbishing" the rotten bottoms on the back and side...and rebuilding the whole front!!

Stawberries and other fruits...

Well, last weekend was mostly taken up with creating a box for strawberries to live in. Apparently this help keeps the slugs off and makes the fruit easier to keep off the ground.

And now we have 6 strawberry plants with little flowers on, hopefully we'll get some before the birds!!

In other fruit news, I have found an adorable tiny dwarf apple tree in the nursery near us, and I'm very tempted by it. But haven't bought one yet...

Gardening Update

So, this seems like as good a place as any to record what goes on. Then hopefully I'll remember some of it for next year...
We've been down every weekend so far, caved in and used mechanical assistance to dig the rest of the plot, weeds absolutely everywhere but at least you can get a spade in the ground!
Its hard to think back now we have done so much, but the main things are bordering the 1st four beds with planks of wood, digging and weeding them, burning off a huge pile of weeds and rubbish from one corner, building a raised box for strawberries, pikeying an unwanted bath for temporary water storage, digging in lots of poo to the general mud, and of course, planting some seeds!! All in all, a busy time trying to get enough space ready to begin planting. Obviously I want to split the veg up as much as possible to allow for crop rotation etc next year, so need lots of space. Also have far too many seeds this year, so just trialling lots of varieties to see what happens. Here's some pics of what will be going into the ground as soon as I get my nerves up to plant out my babies!
